Demi Lovato's Most Iconic Hair Looks (There Are So Many)

Plenty of celebrities change their hair on the regular, but not many can keep up with Demi Lovato. Though the former Disney Channel's star signature style is dark and transitions between bob length and longer, we're not kidding when we say she's tried almost every shade and cut under the sun since she shot to fame on "Camp Rock" alongside the Jonas Brothers. And that includes taking a stunning leap from long to short hair more times than we can count.

The adventurous star (who uses she/her/they/them pronouns) has been open about how her history of impressive hairdos has been a reflection of what she was going through at the time. "I think everything I do inspires my hair changes, you know, my mood and sometimes my relationships," they told PopSugar. "If I were to go through a breakup, sometimes I'd change up my hair. Or when I was going through a lot of spiritual growth, I buzzed my head and I felt like it shed some of the past. [My hair] isn't just reflective of my music, it's reflective of who I am," she added. The actor and singer shocked fans when she tried that dramatic buzzcut in 2021 and sharing glimpses of her new 'do from multiple angles on social media. But that was just one of Lovato's many iconic hair looks.

In 2014, Demi Lovato made a dramatic change to her locks. She shared a glimpse at her dyed, long tresses on Facebook, writing, "Lavender/ silver ombre... I know I said I was gonna give my hair a break but... I #REALLYDONTCARE." But, when they performed at the L.A. Pride parade a few days later, she'd made it even more interesting. The star added pink and purple ombre streaks to the bottom of her mane, and we loved seeing her hair look so colorful at such an important event.

Demi Lovato slayed with a long, sleek ponytail on the 2012 Teen Choice Awards red carpet. The "Remember December" hitmaker seemingly had a little help from extra-long hair extensions (which Lovato looks so different without) as her sleek, cool blond ponytail stretch down to their waist. Lovato made the trendy, high pony even edgier by ditching a classic hair-tie in favor of several inches of grungy, black ribbon, which they wrapped around the base for added height and drama.

At the 2015 American Music Awards, Demi Lovato wore one of her most classic hairstyles to date. She gave us flapper vibes with her vintage wave bob and, by pushing one side behind their ear, she made the whole vibe feel extra sophisticated. The dark shade looked gorgeous alongside her black and gold embellished dress and dark, gothic makeup and the deep side part complimented her enviable bone structure.

Demi Lovato gave us grunge on the "American Idol" finale red carpet in 2014. The "Cool For The Summer" singer showed off a long, brown mane with balayage blond ends, but the most interesting thing about this look, surprisingly, wasn't the ombre color. The left side of Lovato's head was totally shaved with the long section pushed to the other side to create a deep side part. Coupled with her all-black ensemble (including an embellished leather-esque jacket), this look proved they're a total rockstar.

Demi Lovato looked every inch the superstar in 2019 on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet. The hitmaker rocked long, dark brown locks with a center part that framed her face, and her tresses brought some serious volume and texture to the music event. Her mane stretched down past her chest in glamorous waves, but still had plenty of dimension thanks to her flattering yet subtle chestnut highlights.

In 2021, Demi Lovato took her shaved head one step further. The star had buzzed off both sides, shortened the rest of her locks, and dyed it pink during an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." And they shared a poignant reason why. "I feel more authentic to who I am ... I used to hide behind my hair. I've talked a lot about my past, being in recovery from an eating disorder, and I used to use my hair to hide behind," she said.

We couldn't get enough of the stylish bob Demi Lovato sported during an appearance at "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" in 2024. The star's full-bottomed, shoulder skimming cut was so flattering, as she styled it into a voluminous side part with caramel highlights that added extra dimension. We also love how she flipped the ends of one side away from her face and turned the other inward, putting their own twist on the bell-bottom bob that was the flippy haircut of the moment.

Demi Lovato was all about experimenting with her locks in dramatic ways during her stint as a judge on "The X Factor," and we can't forget when she rocked one of her most out-there looks ever — complete with glitter. The star shared a selfie to Facebook in 2013 that showed her posing with fellow judge Simon Cowell with dramatic, mid-length, deep blue tresses and a patch of super sparkly, bright gold glitter just above her right ear. Iconic.

The "Sonny With A Chance" star attached a stunning selfie showing their long, deep pink-y red locks, including dark roots for an extra edge. The choppy look was super stylish at the time, and was a great fit for their pop-rocker image as she transitioned from young adult to woman.

Though Demi Lovato is most famous for being brunette, she proved she's just as stunning as a blond in 2012. During a performance on "Good Morning America," we couldn't believe how gorgeous they looked with light locks. Lovato adopted a flirty, warm blond hue that faded into pink ends and appeared to wear extensions for added length and volume. The two shades brought out the warmth in their skin, and the long waves gave us iconic summer vibes.
