Gwen Stefani's Worst Wig Fail Of All Time Had Fans Doing A Double Take

Gwen Stefani has gorgeous hair, and nine times out of 10, whether she's rocking her natural locks or a wig, she looks red-carpet ready. But much like Stefani has worn a few outfits that hit the wrong note, her lengthy career also isn't without a hair mishap. She suffered a major wig fail during a 2024 episode of "The Voice" when Stefani, who's admitted her ever-changing hair is often down to wigs, shared a series of Instagram snaps while sitting in her iconic red seat in a light, honey blond hair piece. The wig was styled in long waves with brow-skimming bangs — and it got fans doing a double take.

Social media users were well-aware the bright, sunny wig wasn't the star's natural hair and weren't shy about letting her know. "Not trying to be rude but I'm a personal stylist and the color on that wig is not good. I'm not sure who does your hair but it's brassy and needs to be toned better," one person commented. "Sorry not a fan of her wig," another wrote. In addition to the hue, the other give away the piece wasn't natural was in the bangs. The strands looked stiff and didn't seem to sit in line with her natural hairline, while the whole wig appeared unnaturally shiny and looked a little plastic.

That wasn't the only time Stefani has worn a wig that made us go B-A-N-A-N-A-S, though. During a 2019 episode of "The Voice," the former No Doubt singer appeared in another platinum blond hairpiece with blunt bangs. The choppy bob looked more natural than the longer look she'd go on to rock a few years later, and fans were a little more complimentary about the shorter, sassy look. "Hi where is this wig from?" commented one fan on her hairstylist Robert Vetica's Instagram upload. Another wrote, "I liked her long hair, but this is a cute change...no matter how she does her hair [she's] beautiful."

It's not just blond wigs Stefani plays with, though. In 2021, she shocked us with a drastic new look when she was snapped wearing a choppy, dark black bob with bangs. The eyebrow-skimming 'do was radically different to the light blond shade we're used to seeing on the "Rich Girl" hitmaker, but still looked gorgeous against her complexion and highlighted her striking features. Fans adored the temporary change, as one told Stefani in the comments section, "Oh my goodness what a difference, IN A GOOD WAY! YOUR hair is gorgeous dark! leave it!"

We can't foresee the singer going and staying brunette via her natural hair, though. Speaking to Harper's Bazaar, Stefani (whose natural hair isn't platinum blond) shared how much more like herself she felt after first dying her tresses light aged 25. "It was like I'd unlocked the key. I remember feeling like, 'I have arrived. This is me. Finally,'" she recalled.
