The Formerly Outdated Shoe Trend We Can't Believe Is Back In 2025

Millennials, we've some important news. Along with the many other previously outdated beauty trends that are back with a vengeance in 2025, peep-toe heels have made their way back in fashion once again. This summer, the style popularized during the Y2K era has been seen on the feet of celebs like Chloë Sevigny and Katie Holmes, both of whom are sartorial trendsetters. And, if you don't believe them, high-end designers like Prada, Miu Miu, and Tory Burch have featured peep-toe shoes on their recent runways. Personal stylist and creator of Your Style Transformation Academy, Cynthia Kennedy, is not surprised at the comeback. "Fashion right now is still into this Y2K and early 2010s revival, but with better tailoring, better materials, and actual taste," she exclusively shares with Women.com.

Kennedy points out that the 2000s peep-toe style had super high heels and platforms for more of a night club look. "Today's peep-toe moment feels softer, more refined, and intentional. Think sculptural kitten heels, sleek mules, minimalist ankle-wrap styles — not that clunky black patent leather pump from 2011," the image consultant tells us. To step away from outdated heel trends in 2025, look for a sleeker silhouette as opposed to a chunky platform, and choose a pair made in high-end material. How you style them is also important, as you don't want to wear them with skinny jeans, which is such a Y2K look.

How to style peep-toe shoes for a modern take

In order to make your peep-toe heels work for 2025, stylist Cynthia Kennedy's advice is to let them shine on their own. "The new peep-toe is not about stacking trends or over-accessorizing. It's about letting the shoe feel like part of a cleaner, more intentional look," she exclusively tells us. "I suggest going for structure. Try pairing a sleek peep-toe heel with tailored trousers or a column midi dress. Clean lines plus minimal styling equal a big upgrade," she shares. You may want to get a pair in patent leather in a fit of nostalgia, but Kennedy warns us to stay away from them. "Choose luxe textures like leather, suede, matte satin — these materials elevate your look instantly," she says.

When it comes to your 'fits, play around with different silhouettes. The hottest denim trends of 2025 have one thing in common, and they're all baggy. Kennedy also suggests, "Or wear a minimalist ankle-wrap version with a sleek monochrome jumpsuit." And don't forget to give your toes some love. "It sounds basic, but an open toe puts the spotlight on your feet. A fresh, clean, neutral pedi (or even a bold red) can refine the whole look," the fashion expert shares. If you want to jump on the rebranding of the peep-toe trend, aim for finesse, rather than flashy. After all, 2025 is all about classy, demure fashion.
