If you're the kind of reader who's drawn to building tension with every chapter, an ending you never saw coming, and characters you're not sure you can trust until the very end, then Reese's Book Club might be the perfect celebrity book club to join. While other popular celebrity book clubs, like Oprah's and Jenna Bush Hager's, lean toward selections of emotional family sagas and quiet, introspective fiction, you'll find that Reese's picks regularly dip into darker territory.
Notably, Reese's Book Club has more than 30 mystery and thriller picks, and that's not including the mystery and thriller books introduced in the YA division of the club. Also, keep in mind that there have been 97 books (not including YA books) introduced by the book club to date as of June 2025. (And yes, we know this is commendable and might have people thinking: Does Reese read all of her picks?) But, it also means there's a twist-filled page-turner introduced every other month or two, and that's pretty impressive for a genre.
Of course, the book club doesn't stray away from other genres. In fact, the actor even admitted in an Instagram post that historical fiction might be her favorite genre in 2021. The book club does an excellent job of selecting titles that span a wide range of genres, but Reese loves to sit down for a heart-pounding, gripping tale.
Reese Witherspoon is such a fan of mystery and thriller novels, she's co-writing her very own
Reese Witherspoon has shown a preference for a certain genre: thrillers. Whether it's intentional or subconscious, she loves them so much that most of the books her production company, Hello Sunshine, turned into films and TV shows are mystery or suspense picks. Novels like "The Last Thing He Told Me," "Little Fires Everywhere," and "Where The Crawdads Sing" all center around dark secrets, betrayal, and a lot of high-stakes drama.
Her love for the genre doesn't stop there. She's such a big fan that she's co-writing a suspenseful thriller with bestselling author Harlan Coben as her debut novel. The award-winning actor said (via Grand Central Publishing), "To say I am a fan of Harlan's body of work is a massive understatement ... the fact that he found my idea for this thriller intriguing enough to want to partner with me on it as co-author is a dream becoming a reality." It's obvious Witherspoon had been brainstorming for quite some time.
Witherspoon and Coben's book, "Gone Before Goodbye," is set to release on October 14, 2025. The story follows Maggie, a former Army combat surgeon whose license gets revoked due to tragic circumstances. As a last-chance gig, she accepts a job offer as the caretaker for a wealthy patient in a high-tech, secretive compound halfway around the globe. But when the patient disappears, Maggie finds herself entangled in seriously dangerous conspiracies. Will she survive?
