The Weirdest Parts Of Nicola Peltz & Brooklyn Beckham's Marriage Are Hard To Ignore

Nicola Peltz Beckham and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham (who you may also know by their pre-married names of Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham) didn't connect when they first met ... or did they? Weirdly, Nicola shared differing takes on their first meeting, once claiming they didn't have chemistry but later stating they did. In April 2025, Nicola told Tatler, "We didn't get along, we just didn't click ... I had a boyfriend, he had a girlfriend." However, during a joint interview with Glamour two months later, Nicola said, "It was brief, but I felt something. I had a boyfriend, he had a girlfriend — but there was this instant charm. He took a few photos of me, and somehow that moment stayed with me for years." That suggests they connected, even though their romance didn't officially begin for another two years.

Brooklyn also suggested there was a spark, saying, "The first time I saw Nicola at Coachella [in 2017], I was instantly drawn to her. She was gorgeous, obviously, but it was her warmth and energy that stuck with me. Even though it was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, I never forgot it." It's not clear why Nicola's retellings of that fateful meeting differ, but it's definitely not the only weird thing we've noticed in her and Brooklyn's relationship.

Despite their busy careers, Nicola Peltz Beckham and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham seem very co-dependent. She told Cosmopolitan they only spent one night apart in 2022; the night before they tied the knot. "We were panicking," she admitted. "He was texting me the day of the wedding, asking, 'Are you walking down the aisle? Are you walking down the aisle?'" she added, revealing her then-fiancé also messaged her asking, "What are you doing? Are you ready? Are you ready?" Nicola added, "We spend every night together. Even with work travel, we work around it. Like, he had to do one day on set in L.A. last year when we were in New York, but he never slept there. He was so silly. I was like, 'You can go have a night at the apartment.' And he said no." Though it may sound sweet that a couple wants to be together all the time, and it's certainly important to spend quality time together, it's odd to be so averse to a short amount of alone time.

It's healthy for couples to spend time apart. Anchor Light therapy highlights a theory suggesting couples should spend 70% of their time together and the remaining apart, socializing with other people or doing their respective hobbies to maintain autonomy. After all, it's incredibly important to champion your independence when you get into a new relationship, because too much time together is a red flag.

When David Beckham's Netflix documentary series "Beckham" premiered in 2023, Nicola Peltz Beckham and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham celebrated with an eyebrow-raising Instagram upload. Shared to Nicola's page, the snaps began with a photo of her and Brooklyn embracing. She then hoisted her leg up to his waist while he grabbed her booty, planting a kiss on her neck. The subsequent images showed Nicola posing in the bathroom, more booty-grabbing snaps, and just one image of the couple on the red carpet with the Beckham family as the fifth (out of six) slide. "Last night was incredible congratulations @davidbeckham," Nicola captioned the upload.

Plenty of fans agreed it was strange for Nicola to tag her husband's dad in such spicy photos. "Totally weird. If that's not weird then I don't know what is weird anymore? Wrong choice/order of photos to tag [your father-in-law]. I am sure there were other people as well in the pic," one person commented. "Really weird choice for the pic ... I just imagine if I [a] added pic like Nicola's and congrats my father in law, definitely he will have a heart attack," another wrote.

Though Nicola Peltz Beckham and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham once seemed close with his famous family ("I love you so much and love being your dance partner forever," Nicola once wrote on Instagram of mother-in-law Victoria Beckham), things turned sour. Feud rumors swirled after Nicola and Brooklyn skipped David Beckham's 50th birthday celebrations in May 2025, and a source told People that month, "There are tensions between Brooklyn and Nicola and the family. The relationship is definitely not beyond repair. They love and are always there for him. They're just hurt and disappointed that he's now playing no part in family life." A source told Us Weekly that same month, "Nicola and Brooklyn have a mutual desire for Brooklyn to explore his interests and grow as a person. That is what is causing the family rift."

But no matter why the tension began, it's odd for a family that once seemed so close to have such serious strain. And it may not be a good sign for the Peltz Beckhams' marriage. According to clinical psychologist Dr. Carla Manly, it can be incredibly tough when a family doesn't get along with a partner. "Family members sometimes don't find our partners likable ... When a partner or family members don't like each other, the relationship can suffer in the long run due to the grating, sandpaper-like nature of the friction," she told Romper.

In 2024, Nicola Peltz Beckham made her directorial debut on the movie "Lola," and she wasn't afraid to cut her husband out of the project. The star told The Hollywood Reporter that Brooklyn Peltz Beckham initially had a role, but she didn't feel the Brit's acting chops were up to par. "Brooklyn is actually really upset that he did get cut from his one little cameo. He had one line, 'Hi,' but he kept saying it in a British accent and he was staring directly into the camera," Nicola said. "I was like, oh God, we have to move on, good lord. So, Brooklyn ended up on the chopping block," she admitted.

Though Nicola also gushed over how much Brooklyn still supported her career, it's a little strange for a wife to totally cut her husband from such a personal project after they've already done the work. Especially if she knew he had a deep desire to be a part of it.

Rumors have swirled that Nicola Peltz Beckham supposedly has a lot of control over Brooklyn Peltz Beckham and may have shown signs of being too possessive in their relationship. "Brooklyn is now being referred to as 'the hostage,'" a source claimed to Daily Mail. "He is in a situation where those who love Brooklyn fear that he is being controlled by Nicola and it is heartbreaking," they added. 

One example may be the out-of-character Facebook video Brooklyn shared of himself and his wife riding a motorcycle. He drove as Nicola sat behind him, and the amateur clip showed the couple riding together set to music. But a Page Six source claimed the video, which was also shared on Nicola's Instagram, wasn't something David Beckham and Victoria Beckham's son would usually post. "Videos like this are just not what he does. He will be dying inside. He's soppy, and he's a romantic, but that video just isn't him. He hates all of that stuff, so you have to wonder if Nicola was behind it," they said.
