The Reese's Book Club Pick Ivanka Trump Has On Her TBR Is A Tragic Divorce Tale

Ivanka Trump has always been vocal about her love of reading, and her latest endorsement was surprisingly a memoir about a woman's road to divorce. On June 1, she shared a carousel of pictures on Instagram, with one of them being a snap of "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle. "This week in Miami," Ivanka shared. Doyle's book, which is considered one of the best memoirs from Reese's Book Club, is about the author's journey toward breaking free of her unhappy marriage and discovering her sexuality. She recounts feeling trapped not only in her relationship with her husband, but also in societal expectations, which she only freed herself from when she decided to stop living for others.

Doyle recalled promoting her previous memoir, "Love Warrior," and feeling torn about divorcing her husband. "Since the book was about saving our marriage, a breakup wasn't exactly the scenario my publisher had been hoping for, and I hadn't yet figured out how to discuss it publicly," she wrote on Oprah's website. She added, "More important, the decision to divorce left our three kids in great pain — kids who, until then, had had a pretty Rockwellian existence." Ivanka's current read isn't eyebrow-raising only for its divorce-centric theme. Doyle has been outspoken about her dislike of Donald Trump, which she voices loud and clear in "Untamed," so Ivanka is in for an unpleasant surprise when she eventually flips to those pages.

Glennon Doyle has publicly slammed Donald Trump

Since acting as Donald Trump's advisor during his first term, Ivanka Trump has since quietly distanced herself from politics, but it was still a bold move of hers to share Glennon Doyle's "Untamed" on Instagram. In October 2024, the author declared on Instagram, "If Trump wins, we lose. There are 19 Days until Election Day: The day that will determine whether we will — or will not — have the right to make decisions about our bodies and our lives. And whether future generations will have fundamental freedoms." Doyle continued, "We can't wake up on November 6th wishing we'd done more. We have too much to lose. We are not going back."

Following the 2024 election, Doyle detailed her reaction in "Untamed." She wrote, per Goodreads, "Decades after that day in the therapist's office, Donald Trump was elected president. A friend called me and said, 'This is the apocalypse. This is the end of our country as we know it.' I said, 'I hope so. Apocalypse means uncovering. Gotta uncover before you can recover.'" She added, "Maybe we'll admit that liberty and justice for all has always meant liberty for white straight wealthy men. Then maybe we'll gather the entire family at the table—the women and the gay and black and brown folks and those in power—so that we can begin the long, hard work of making amends." With all of Ivanka's outfits that cost more than the average rent, it's unclear if Doyle's passage will resonate with her, but perhaps she'll just skip the parts disparaging her dad.
