Lauren Boebert Tried To Hop On An Outdated Shoe Trend Making A Comeback But Fell Totally Flat

Lauren Boebert has worn a few outfits that were complete misses, but she seemed to be more trend-conscious at a rally for Andy Biggs in May 2025. The U.S. congresswoman wore a waist-cinching dress with short sleeves and a sophisticated yet flirty pink, white, and blue floral print that finished just above her knee. Unfortunately, though, the ensemble was let down by her shoes.
Boebert tried to jump on a couple of comeback trends via her footwear, as she wore metallic silver peep toe heels. It's understand why given that metallic shoes are a hot trend for 2025 and peep toes are a previously outdated trend back with a vengeance. But her take on the resurgence fell flat.
The problem? It looked like she'd found the footwear in the back of her closet, dusted them off, and wore them for the first time since 2009. The heels gave us Charlotte Russe and Wet Seal vibes thanks to their rounded toes, and while there's absolutely nothing wrong with recycling our old clothing and shoes (in fact, that's a good thing) the dated pieces didn't elevate her look and felt like a missed opportunity to modernize her style.
The shoes Lauren Boebert should have worn to be on trend
Instead of relying on peep toe heels that looked like they got the red-eye from the past, if we were Lauren Boebert's stylist, we'd have suggested she pay more attention to the modern twist on the returning trend. The 2025 version of the peep toe is sleeker, more structured, and tends to have just a hint of a cut-out over the toe. We've also said goodbye to the dated platform we saw everywhere in the late 2000s.
The more contemporary way to wear the look is also to match the color exactly (or at least as much as possible) to your clothing. "The White Lotus" star Sydney Sweeney showed us how in April when she attended a Laneige event in blush pink mule peep toes that were a very similar shade to her ribbed jacket.
We'd have suggested Boebert slip into NUMALEO's Women's Comfortable Low Kitten Heels Sandals in navy blue. Not only would they have matched her dress perfectly, they'd have brought a more 2025 appropriate shape to her footwear. Equally, the square toe on LULLASONG's Women's Kitten Heels Sandals in white would have brought a more contemporary vibe to Boebert's look while complimenting the pattern in her spring dress. Considering there's one outdated denim trend Boebert is flat-out refusing to leave in the past though, we give her props for at least trying to modernize her style.
