In May 2023, Jenna Bush Hager's Read With Jenna book club brought Eliza Jane Brazier's "Girls and Their Horses" to our attention, and now we have huge news about the thriller — it's being adapted for TV! A-lister Nicole Kidman (who's been part of several iconic movies and TV shows based on books) is onboard to star and executive produce, according to Variety, while Brazier will also have an executive producer role and will write the pilot episode. So you know it's going to be good. Brazier confirmed the exciting news on Instagram. She shared a screenshot of Variety's story and thanked those who made the huge move possible, including Kidman, in the caption.

"'Girls and Their Horses' is the story of a mother who is looking to connect with her daughters through a shared love of horses," Brazier told Today, explaining the central family relocates to California for a new life where, sadly (spoiler alert), someone dies. "[They] dive into the all-consuming horse world — with egotistical trainers, cliquey mean girls and their competitive mothers. They are drawn deeper into this enigmatic world, even as it becomes more and more clear that someone is headed for tragedy," she ominously continued. Brazier even hinted the book was designed with TV in mind, admitting, "It's also an ensemble so I wanted to make it feel like a TV show, with a large cast and intersecting storylines."

Brazier likened "Girls and Their Horses" to Liane Moriarty's "Big Little Lies" and Megan Abbott's crime books, which include "Beware the Woman" and "The Turnout." Coincidentally, Bush Hager is also a fan of Abbott's, as the latter novel made it onto our list of the best thriller and mystery picks from the Read With Jenna book club.

What Jenna Bush Hager said about Girls and Their Horses

Read With Jenna's official Instagram account shared a snap of Jenna Bush Hager holding a copy of "Girls and Their Horses" in 2023 with a glowing recommendation in the caption. "Giving some love to one of our favorite new books, 'Girls and Their Horses' by Eliza Jane Brazier! This is a thriller you won't be able to put down this summer!" the caption read.

Plenty of the book club's followers agreed it was a gripping read, as the comments were full of praise for the novel. "This book is INCREDIBLE!" one Instagram user wrote, while another person commented, "This was a five star read for me." Considering the book has 3.7 out of 5 stars on Goodreads at the time of writing, with more than 4,400 ratings, our hopes are sky-high for the upcoming adaptation. However, it's not yet been confirmed when this already hotly anticipated Nicole Kidman and Eliza Jane Brazier collab will hit screens. One thing we do know, though? We should probably expect to see Kidman protecting her real hair under a wig on screen.
