Nicole Kidman's Comment About Her Natural Hair Texture Is The Perfect Message For Curly Girls

"Little girls out there, embrace the curl. Do not follow in my steps and straighten your hair." That was Nicole Kidman's PSA for curly-haired girls in a May 2025 interview with Allure — and honestly? It's the kind of messaging from an influential woman many girls will wish they'd heard sooner.

Kidman's naturally curly hair is head-turning, but not many people know it. The Oscar-winning actor is always making a bold hair transformation for the sake of her career, to play all of her roles on the big screen. She's changed everything, including her hair color, style, and texture, so often that most people wouldn't even know which hair is her natural hair in a lineup of all of the styles she's done. While it means the actor can seriously pull off any kind of hairstyle and make them all look like her very own, it doesn't do her hair any favors. The actor even admitted she wished she hadn't straightened her hair for that very reason. 

In a 2020 interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, she was asked about regrets, and one of the first things she mentioned was her hair as she said, "Do I wish that I hadn't screwed up my hair by straightening it all the time? Sure." It was clear Kidman had reflected on the long-term effects of constantly changing her natural hair texture. And this wasn't the first time she's been outspoken on the matter.

In the Allure interview, Nicole Kidman looked back at the most iconic looks of her career. As she watched a clip of herself in "Days of Thunder," she said, "Why did I straighten my hair?" followed by, "I love my hair there. That is my natural hair ... Isn't that crazy?" Of all the hair transformations the actor has gone through, this moment stood out as it was one of the rare times her natural curls were represented on-screen. 

Over the years, the actor has openly spoken about her complicated relationship with her natural hair. She's admitted that all the heat straightening has taken a toll on her hair health. In an interview with WHO, she even shared that she felt like she tormented her natural curls and how she just wanted her hair back. The actor often reminisces on her curly hair days and regrets straightening it to the point that now, while those curls can come back, there has to be some effort put forth (i.e., a lot of scrunching and some help from humidity). 

Lately, it seems the return to her natural curls is getting closer, as Kidman has been seen embracing curly hairstyles more and more. The actor shared a photo of herself on the night of the Academy Museum Gala on Instagram in her natural curls, and fans absolutely adored it. One fan said, "HAIR!!! Yay the curls were FREE!!!!"
