Taylor Swift's Best Halloween Costumes From Comfy To Comic Book
We look to Taylor Swift for everything from book recs and chic street-style outfits to Instagram captions (you know you've done it too). So why wouldn't we look to her for Halloween costume ideas? Dressing up as Miss Americana is repeatedly predicted to be one of the most popular spooky season costumes — we've got tips for the best celeb-inspired Halloween costumes, too — but we're taking things one step further to get inspired by costumes Swift has worn over the years.
We know Swift loves a good time, and we also know she loves to throw herself into a theme. Case in point: She wore an Olaf costume to celebrate Idina Menzel being at a "1989 Tour" date. That's why we're bringing you some of her best Halloween costumes; from comfy to comic book. As she put it on Instagram in 2021, "Basic autumn lovers RISE."
Her squirrel costume in 2021 was acorn iconic
Is there anything more Taylor Swift-coded than dressing up as a giant squirrel for the spookiest night of the year? Swift posted photos of her rodent costume on Instagram in 2021, striking poses in the giant outfit complete with a bulging tale. She showed off her sassy side in the caption, writing, "Can't talk right now, I'm doin hot squirrel s**t." You go, spooky Swift! This costume was so iconic amongst Swifties that it inspired one fan to tweet in all caps, "THE QUEEN OF HALLOWEEN." Agreed.
She served magical pegacorn in 2014
In 2014, Taylor Swift went comfy and cozy for an interview with "The Elvis Duran Z100 Morning Show." The furry white onesie featured huge wings on her back, a long fluffy tail, platform footies, and hooves over her hands (this one wasn't the most practical). Swift shared a photo of herself wearing the outfit in an elevator with the caption (via The Cut), "Cause, darling I'm a nightmare dressed like a PEGACORN." That post has since been deleted, but, thankfully, the magic lives on via photos from her time at Z100 Studios. Pegasus and unicorn mixed? Swift can do it with or without a broken heart.
Taylor Swift's The Little Mermaid costume was one of her most glam looks ever
Taylor Swift doesn't bless us with a Halloween costume every year, but when she does, it's certainly memorable. In 2019, she dressed as The Little Mermaid for one of her most iconic costumes ever, as she shared on Instagram the theme was childhood heroes. She had jaws on the floor in a long, bright red wig with a purple and green shiny mermaid-tale dress and a cute crab purse. The party, which we'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall for, was also attended by Gigi Hadid as Mary Poppins and Blake Lively as Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz." She made the cutest Teletubby as a child
Proving Taylor Swift was rocking fun Halloween costumes years before she got famous, when she was a kid, she dressed up as an adorable Teletubby. The youngster loved the children's TV show so much she even carried a Teletubby plush around with her. So cute! Swift shared the photo on Instagram in 2015 with the caption (via People), "When you dress as the yellow Teletubby for Halloween, but it's before Teletubbies got huge so all the kids at school ask you why you're dressed as a yellow pregnant alien." Awkward. Though Swift may have removed the image from her social media accounts, thankfully, "Teletubbies" shared it on Facebook in all its glory.
Taylor Swift wore an authentic Deadpool outfit for Halloween in 2016
Taylor Swift doesn't do spooky season by halves, so she didn't do the mere mortal thing of going to the store for a Deadpool costume in 2016. Instead, she contacted the man himself, Ryan Reynolds, to get the real thing. She confirmed that in her since-deleted Instagram upload, telling Reynolds in the caption (via Billboard), "You're the BEST Deadpool inside contact ever." Though the photos are no longer on the "Karma" hitmaker's accounts, the memory lives on, because Swifties can't get over cool comic book costumes even years later. "Ryan Reynolds letting Taylor Swift wear his Deadpool costume for Halloween, lives in my head rent-free," one fan tweeted in January 2022. Ours too.
