Disney Announces Upcoming Reimagining Of 'The Lion King'
Jon Favreau, who directed the wildly successful live-action version of The Jungle Book is ready to recreate another Disney classic.
In the past few years, Walt Disney Studios has fallen upon a goldmine when it comes to the reimagining of family classics.
Today, Disney confirmed that Jon Favreau will be directing their latest venture: a live-action version of The Lion King. You may recognize Favreau's name because he also directed the wildly successful live-action reimagining of The Jungle Book last year, earning over $965 million in theatres. As proof of his Jungle Book success, a sequel has already been greenlit as well.
With past success with live-action versions of, Cinderella, Pete's Dragon and Maleficent, the studio has an extremely vast collection to choose their next project from. More recently, the studio announced their translation of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson as Belle.
This new project could be the biggest one yet. During the original theatrical run, The Lion King earned over $422.8 million domestically and won Academy Awards for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and the original score. A family favorite, this movie has remained one of the most beloved films from the studio for many years.
For those of you who think the masterpiece should be left untouched, try to imagine the magic this new feature will bring to life.
And as always, hakuna matata.
