It’s Okay To Stop Going To So Many Weddings - Here’s Why
>
By AMANDA CHATEL
Weddings are very expensive, even for guests. According to Bankrate, wedding guests spend around $600 for every wedding they attend, which adds up if there’s more than one.
Money
While one wedding a year might be doable, if you're at the age where just about everyone you know is getting married, then that could lead to a financial crisis.
Say no to an invite if your relationship with them isn't wedding-level. This is less about how long you’ve known them and more about how close you are.
Friendship Level
Think of it this way: if you wouldn’t invite them to your wedding, then you’re more than allowed to say no to theirs. You can use that time for relationships that matter to you.
Weddings tend to bring out emotions in everyone, but if you’re not emotionally equipped to handle someone’s wedding, then it’s okay to say no.
Mental Health
If you don’t feel comfortable or there’s someone you don’t want to see, that’s fine. Put your needs first; there’s no shame in protecting your emotional and mental health.
Life is short and can pass in the blink of an eye, so you should be able to choose how you spend your time. That includes not attending weddings.
Your Time
Instead of fearing what will happen if you say no, set boundaries that allow you the freedom to say no. While not every bride or groom will understand, that's on them.
