Being a pious person is a wonderful thing. The word pious is defined like this: "Devoutly religious. Devout, God-fearing, churchgoing, spiritual, prayerful, holy, godly, saintly, dedicated, reverent, dutiful, and righteous". That is a very intense definition to have. If you are described by others as being a pious person or if your family is described as being a pious family, you are already working in the right direction! Being pious means you are on fire for the Lord! You are excited to talk to him through prayer and even more excited to hear back from him at church or through reading your bible! Someone once said, "Life is wasted if we do not grasp the glory of the cross, cherish it for the treasure that it is, and cleave to it as the highest price of every pleasure and the deepest comfort in every pain. What was once foolishness to us—a crucified God—must become our wisdom and our power and our only boast in this world.” That someone is a man named John Piper. John Piper is incredibly wise when it comes to the Christian faith! Grasping the level of importance of Jesus being hung from that cross is enough to make anyone feel extremely pious! Randy Alcorn said, “He who lays up treasures on earth spends his life backing away from his treasures. To him, death is a loss. He who lays up treasures in heaven looks forward to eternity; he’s moving daily toward his treasures. To him, death is gain." That quote gives us a perspective on why we should be more pious!
