Hebrews 12:1-2 says, "Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." The big takeaway from those verses is the fact that we must persevere and one of the easiest ways we can successfully do that is by taking the time to worship the Lord through song and music. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." The Lord is truly patient with us and he can see us as we try to please him and honor him when we sing songs like these popular hymns, written by some very prolific and talented individuals. Lamentations 3:22-23 says, "Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." God's compassion will NEVER fail us-- so taking the time to sing him some hymns in an act of worship only makes sense if you really think about it!
