-Sorry for what I said... when I was pitching the tent

I've never seen so much tree sap than this year in the Sierra. It was on our clothes, tents, shoes and just about everything else. It was a welcomed sight.. because it means healthy trees with an abundance of water. So much so that the color wasn't your typical amber ... but clear.. like ice. I was puzzled so while hiking I asked my dad who through years of commercial plant growing & landscaping has a keen understanding of botany. He explained that the dying pine tree epidemic caused by bark beetles or 'kill beetles' was created mainly by the years of drought & lack of clearing fires which created a lack of sap, the trees natural protection. The more sap in the tree the greater natural defense the trees have against burrowing beetles. Although a pain for those dumb enough πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™‚οΈto put their tent directly under a tree, it was an absolute welcomed sight to witness healthier trees in the Sierra. @blackdiamond
