You know those times when you’re hanging out with your friends or your partner, but every time there’s a break in the conversation you look up and they’re checking their Instagram or Snapchatting their friends a video of themselves while stealing bites of the pie you’re supposed to be eating "together." Then they just look at you and shrug innocently, cause it's totally no big deal right? Right?

Yeah, well, they’re wrong. It’s a huge deal. Technically, they're guilty of something called “phubbing,” which is the act of “phone snubbing,” and new research shows that this is likely to cause long-term negative effects in your relationships and personal life.

There's nothing like going out to your birthday dinner and looking up to see that your friend or partner has completely disengaged from the conversation and has no idea where you are or what you're talking about.

And, we've all been there, hell I've been the insensitive one on my phone countless times. However, I think it's essential the more connected we get because of technology, the more conscious our effort becomes to disconnect when it really matters that we give someone we love our full attention.

Whatever it is you're distracted by, science has proved that humans aren't capable of multitasking very well. So this means that if you're talking to your friend, checking an email and texting your partner back all at the same time, chances are you are doing none of it very well.

And chances are even higher that it isn't making you any happier to be reinforcing these kind of habits any way. We're learning new things all the time about "flow" and how being present in the moment can actually greatly increase individual happiness. So it's not just the nice thing to do for others, it's a nice thing to do for yourself too!

SO, the next time you're out with a friend or a partner, do them a favor and GET OFF YOUR FUCKING PHONE. Maybe even leave it at home for the night?

OKAY. OKAY. Maybe just put it away in your pocket while you guys have dinner. Sheesh!

And to end this on a positive note, here's a song called "Fuck Your Phone" by Snow Tha Product.
