There are a lot of questions that Instagram users have after the app just released it's new direct story sharing feature, like: Can You DM An Instagram Story From A Private Account To Someone That User Doesn't Follow?

The Answer:

The answer to this question depends on whether you're sending the story direct message to someone that already follows the private account in question. If this is the case, you can definiely send the story to someone that already follows the private user.

However, if you're trying to send an Instagram DM to someone that doesn't currently follow the private user, you won't have much luck. Thankfully, with the new Instagram direct message story sharing option, user story privacy settings remain the same. SO whoever couldn't see a story before the update won't be able to see it now either.
