Netflix Announces A New Series Based on "Anne of Green Gables"
Get excited to be reunited with this kindred spirit.
There are lots of great things that Canada gave us. Drake, Justin Bieber, and the recipe for the perfect maple-glazed donut. But nothing can compare to the greatness of Anne Shirley.
This best-selling book by L.M. Montgomery, adapted into a film series in 1985 took the world by surprise and brought us one of the most popular redheads in history.
Now, Netflix and CBC join with Northwood Entertainment to bring us ANNE, which will consist of eight one-hour episodes created by an all-woman team.
The series follows Anne Shirley, an orphan adopted by a brother and sister to work on their farm. Anne attempts to adjust to her new home, getting the perfect grades in school, and spending time with her "bosom" best friend, Diana. She also gets into some trouble with her nemesis, Gilbert Blythe.
As a 90s kid and proud redhead, Anne Shirley defined what it meant to be smart, bold, and endlessly charismatic to me. She was the epitome of strong and I wanted to be just like her.
The film itself became a timeless treasure in my family, and it's sure to be another treasure in my household.
The show streams globally on Netflix in 2017, and let's hope they have plenty of Gilbert Blythe to go around.
