Our Ears Can Indicate Our Health, and These 8 Symptoms Should Never Be Ignored
It is a normal hygienic procedure to clean our ears once every few days. However, not all of us know that earwax has a protective function and can indicate the state of our health.
Before anyone reaches for a cotton swab, it’s important to know how to safely clean your ears.
A cotton swab should never be inserted into the ear canal. In fact, your ears have their own way of self cleaning by pushing out wax on their own.
Sometimes this can cause earwax to build up on the external part of the ear, which can be gently cleaned using a cotton swab or wet cloth.
Resist all urges to place a foreign object inside your ear canal.
Gray earwax may look unusual, but if you see it on your cotton swab, there's no need to worry. The gray color is usually just the result of the ear's natural cleaning process. But if the wax is dry and brittle and your ear is itchy, it could be a sign of eczema
Dark brown or Black Earwax
While black or very dark brown wax is scary looking, it is probably no cause for alarm. Dark earwax could be a sign of the overproduction of wax from stress as mentioned above. It is also a sign that it has been in your ear for a while. The fats in your earwax react to oxygen, causing the substance to darken.
Earwax with traces of blood
Bleeding from the ear is ear drainage that contains blood. The discharge may be a combination of pus, wax, fluid and blood. Although there are other possible causes, the most common cause of bleeding from the ear is a ruptured or perforated eardrum
Earwax of a white color
The white color of your earwax can signify that there is a lack of vitamins and microelements inside your body, specifically iron and copper. That is why it is recommended to add beans and oatmeal to your diet. It wouldn’t be bad to take a course of vitamins as well.
Earwax with an unpleasant smell
If there is a strong unpleasant smell coming from your earwax, it can signify an infection inside your middle ear. Apart from the smell, you might also hear a noise or feel your ears pop from time to time. If you have these symptoms, it is worth visiting an ENT doctor.
If the consistency of your earwax has changed recently, it can indicate the start of the inflammation process. If so, it is worth making an appointment with a specialist
The easiest explanation for earwax dryness is a lack of lean fats inside your body. Apart from that, the reason could be dermatitis and other skin diseases, which can make your skin dry.
