1. It Can Make Breastfeeding Easier (and Less Painful)

Many people choose to breastfeed their babies because breastmilk is healthier than formula and some see the process as an important bonding experience between parent and child. That doesn't mean it's without its downsides. In 2007, the International Breastfeeding Journal published a study that found that using mint oil on your nipples can help reduce both pain and the number of cracks you get.

2. Mint Can Help Relieve Pain and Headaches

Mint has also long been used in pain relief. Specifically, when applied to the skin, mint can temporarily increase pain tolerance in people. Rubbing mint oil to the forehead and nose can help with headache pain, and mint has also been known to help with inflammation and rise in body temperature, which can cause headaches. Brazilian mint tea has also been found as effective in pain relief as taking aspirin.

3. It Can Improve Brain Function

Improved brain function is yet another benefit of mint! A study at Cardiff University found that regularly chewing mint gum increased memory retention and mental alertness, while another study found that smelling peppermint oil five minutes before a test could improve test scores. Being more alert and less anxious and fatigued is another benefit of mint.

4. Mint Helps With Digestion

There's a reason so many restaurants send mints with the bill: mint aids in digestion! Mint helps food pass through the stomach faster, which is really beneficial if you ate too much or have indigestion. One study even found that mint and caraway capsules had very similar effects to over-the-counter indigestion aids.

5. It Will Make Your Skin Flawless

Mint is really great for skin care. It is anti-inflammatory, it can help sooth pimples and acne, it can be used as a skin cleanser, it can be used to clean wounds and stop itching. It's often used to treat insect bites and stings. Not to mention the fact that mint is also an insect repellent. Mint can truly do it all!

6. Mint Can Help With IBS Symptoms

Between the stomach pain, bloating, gas, and other awful symptoms, IBS is no fun. However, mint has been known to help treat IBS symptoms. A study conducted found that 75 percent of patients taking mint capsules had a 50 percent reduction in IBS symptoms in just four weeks. Peppermint oil has also been known to help the digestive tract relax.
