Supernatural/Scooby-Doo Spoilers

If you were wondering how the gang was going to pull this off, the answer is simple: the episode is part live-action and part animated adventure.

So, yeah, Supernatural has officially crossed over into bizarre television. It joins the ranks of any TV show that has had an animated special, a musical episode, or a time travel episode.

How do Sam and Dean enter Scooby Doo's world?

Apparently, Dean wrestles with a stuffed dinosaur — and wins a free TV because of it. Sam is wary, of course, because if something is too good to be true (like a free TV!) it probably is.

Naturally, the TV sucks them inside, turning them into a Scooby Doo cartoon.

In the immortal words of Scooby Doo: “Ruh roh.”

Robert Singer, the co-showrunner, told EW:

“Once they get over their amazement at being in the cartoon, two things happen. They say, ’We’ve been in a situation like this before with the Trickster and I think we’re supposed to play this out.’ And then they realize they’re in a Scooby-Doo cartoon, which makes Dean incredibly excited because Scooby-Doo was his favorite cartoon growing up.”

Dean and Sam find themselves in a 1970’s episode, “A Night of Fright Is No Delight.” Also, the creature from Supernatural shows up, making the show a lot darker.

Singer said, “It gets pretty dark. There are things you wouldn’t see in a regular Scooby-Doo cartoon.”

Castiel seems to be a part of the action as well.

Supernatural airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
