Stranger On Train Hands Single Mom A Note About Her Parenting

family, son, mother

You'll get surprised!

Samantha was on a crowded ride with her toddler boy. She was trying her best to keep him busy and entertained. As we all know, toddlers are great at running outside but not so good at sitting down for hours inside a train. But after a while Rylan ended up sleeping on his mother's lap.

Even though the train was packed and there was very limited space, Samantha made room for a man in her car. She vaguely remembers what he looked like. He was wearing a hat and glasses.

When the stranger was about to leave the train, he stood up, tapped her on the shoulder, and said, “I think you’ve dropped this.” He handed her a folded up piece of paper and got off the train.

The mother realized the man was lying. She didn't drop anything. The man had actually handed her a note, along with some cash.

After reading the message, Samantha was so shocked that she wanted to cry right there, inside that crowded train.

It Was Just a Normal Train Ride

The young single mother from the U.K. did everything she could to keep little Rylan occupied — from playing games to singing lullabies.

Even though keeping toddlers engaged in a conversation is almost impossible, Samantha managed to quietly chitchatted and even work on lessons about manners with her 3-year-old son.

Eventually, Rylan fell asleep and Samantha moved him onto her lap, cuddling him close.

But That Train Ride Was About To Surprise Her

The man seated next to Samantha reached his stop and left. But not before quickly handing her a folded up piece of paper.

The young mother looked at the paper in her hand and realized it was a handwritten note wrapped around a £5 bill.

The Note Started With: "I Have a Daughter Your Age"

The note read:

**"Have a drink on me, you’re a credit to your generation, polite and teaching the little boy good manners.

P.S. I have a daughter your age, someone did the same for her once. I hope when she has children she is as good a mother as you."**

The note had no name. It was signed as “man on train at table with glasses and hat.”

The Stranger's Words Were Really Touching

His words and gesture came as a big surprise for the single mother. She was really touched by his kindness.

All she wanted now was a chance to thank the mysterious man. But he had disappeared. All she knew about the stranger was in the piece of paper in her hands. He was the "man on train, with glasses and hat who had a daughter her age".

She Wanted To Thank Him, But He Was Gone

Desperate to personally tell the man how much this gesture meant, Samantha went home and began searching for him on Facebook.

She and Rylan also appeared on local talk shows to tell their story and track him down.

About a week later, the hard work paid off, and the kindhearted mystery man was identified.

Now The Stranger Was About To Get A Surprise

Ken Saunders, 50, was on his way home from work at the National Health Service in England.

Ken is a family man who has been with his partner for 16 years and has four stepsons.

He couldn’t believe the overwhelming response to his spur-of-the-moment note.

"She’s lightened up my night"

Said Ken after watching Samantha's dedication to her little boy.

Ken says he was just coming off a long work day, and watching Samantha and Rylan together was a much welcomed reprieve. Rylan, a playful and energetic little boy, reminded him of his grown daughter when she was younger.

He was also touched by how Samantha corrected Rylan’s manners, and how Rylan responded to his mom’s teachings with respect and eagerness to learn.

“It made such a change compared to the maligned young people of today,” he told DailyMail

“I thought, ‘She’s lightened up my night, I’m going to lighten up her night.’”

With all the negative news we hear every day, it can be easy to forget that angels walk among us.
