Do You know The Most Beautiful Horse In The World?
All horses are majestic, stunning creatures, but this one breed truly stands out from the rest.
The biodiversity around the globe includes many amazing creatures. These unique animals delight our eyes and instigate our curiosity. For those paying close attention, there's no end to all nature's outstanding creations. Some horses, for instance, can surprise us with amazing traits that are truly rare and unknown to many.
It doesn't matter if you've seen a million horses, you've probably never seen them like this! This mysterious equine called Akhal-Teke is native to Turkmenistan. You must be wondering: Akhal-Teke? Is it a mythical creature from the Lord of the Rings. Even with this alluring name, these metallic-looking animals are not fiction. They are entirely real.
They are revered throughout Asia and Akhal-Teke horses are also considered a national treasure in Turkmenistan.
Originally bred to survive in extreme weather conditions, they are known for their intelligence, endurance, and speed. Popularly known as "golden horses" or "horses from heaven" in China.
However, the most striking trait they own is their lustrous coats that are incredibly bright . The scientific explanation tell us that the structure of their hair follicles differs from other horses. The core of each hair strand on the Akhal-Teke is not as opaque as that of other horse breeds.
Instead, there's a larger transparent portion which takes up more space and captures more light. That's the reason for glorious sheen you see pictured below:
The Akhal-Teke horses are not only beautiful but extremely rare. There are just about 6,600 Akhal-Tekes on Earth (Data from 2012), most of them are found in Turkmenistan and Russia. The government of Turkmenistan sometimes gifts these animals to other countries as diplomatic gifts, since they such a rare and magnificent breed.
The beauty of animals like the Akhal-Teke is a humbling reminder of how much biodiversity we have in the world and how little we know about it. Luckily, even if we can't afford a trip to Asia right now, we can still admire these stunning horses via Internet. Thanks, Technology!
