Will Catherine Avery Die on 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Grey's Anatomy has killed off its fair share of characters along the years. From losing favorites like Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), the only thing a Grey's fan can be sure of, it's that no one is safe at Grey Sloan Memorial.

Grey's has now reached season 15 and things have calmed down. No major character deaths have happened lately, which has fans on high alert.

Earlier this season, fans – and the doctors – discovered that Catherine (Debbie Allen) has cancer. Now that her big surgery is coming up, it has everyone wondering will Catherine die on Grey's Anatomy?

Here's what we know so far.

In episode 7, Catherine revealed she had an aggressive spinal tumor, leaving both Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Koracick (Greg Germann) shaken.

Not only did the pair discover Catherine's tumor was cancerous, but the surgery they needed to do could also leave her paralyzed – or worse, dead.

In the episode premiering on Jan. 31, titled "The Winner Takes It All," Catherine will fight for her life as she undergoes surgery.

While we can rest a little easier now that we know that Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Richard (James Pickens Jr.) are going to be there to support her, the trailer for season 15 episode 11 previewed something unsettling.

In the trailer, something goes wrong with Catherine's surgery.

"If we keep going, we cost Catherine her life," Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) exclaims on the operating table, followed by a clip of Jackson sobbing on Maggie's shoulder.

That is not what we wanted to see or hear before going into this.

So could Catherine really die?

It's possible.

It's clear from the trailer that something goes wrong during the surgery. However, we don't know the full story. Trailers choose specific clips to draw audiences in, so we could just be seeing one moment where things go wrong.

That being said, you never really know with Grey's. But that's why we love it so much, right?

Right?
