ABC Spills On The New Grey's Anatomy Firefighter Spinoff!
Find out how the spinoff came together and if any Grey's Anatomy alum will be changing occupations!
On the eve of the Grey's Anatomy Season 13 finale, ABC announced that Shondaland would be getting a new show, a Grey's Anatomy firefighter spinoff! The currently untitled spinoff will focus on the drama of firefighters in Seattle, both at home and in the workplace. The Grey's firefighter spinoff will likely premiere in the 2017-18 season. But, ABC Studios president, Patrick Moran, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and couldn't help but tease a few details on the spinoff. To say we are excited, is an understatement!
The Firefighter Spinoff Will Likely NOT Feature Original Grey's Anatomy Characters
The firefighter spinoff may be in the early stages of development, but it seems like no one from Grey's Anatomy will be making the change. Sources are supposedly saying that the new Grey's spinoff is "expected to feature largely new characters."
As excited as we are for new characters in the firefighter spinoff, it's pretty disappointing to hear that Ben Warren probably won't be featured in the new show, despite his heroic acts in the Grey's Anatomy Season 13 finale.
But, they never said anything about not having crossovers. So, who knows? We'll just have to wait and see on this one.
How The Firefighter Spinoff Came Together
Even if the spinoff seemed to come out of the blue for fans, Moran spilled on what really went down.
"The discussions have been going on for a while — earlier than this season. It was up to Shonda to tell us when she had inspiration for something that made sense, which was pretty recent," Moran told The Hollywood Reporter. He added:
It definitely seems like we're at least getting some strong female leads. And that is something to be excited for!
What are YOU most looking forward to in the Grey's Anatomy firefighter spinoff?!
