Sarah Drew Opens Up About Life After Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy season 15 is well on its way, but we can't help but feel a little sad about what the new season's going to be like without fan favorites Sarah Drew, who played Dr. April Kepner, and Jessica Capshaw, who played Dr. Arizona Robbins. Lucky for us, Drew recently opened up on how she's been doing post-Grey's, her thoughts on getting fired from the show, and what she's up to next.

I had an absolute blast at the @hollywoodreporter Emmy party on Friday night! #henrywinkler is maybe the kindest human on the planet (not to mention an icon! Plus, I'm obsessed with Barry). He asked for my address so he could send my children the kids' books that he writes ! What?!?! I geeked out over the @strangerthingstv stars @nattyiceofficial @charlie.r.heaton and met the lovely @henryzaga and then, had an awesome time chatting with @trevornoah about Grey's and about how much my hubby and I love his show and his standup! Also got to reconnect with @snoodit who interviewed me for my @hollywoodreporter article a couple weeks ago, and whom I adore... and of course I had to get a pic with the incredible @iamsandraohinsta !! Oh- I didn't get pics of this- but I fangirled all over @madbrew and @whododatlikedat . Gorgeous women kicking awesome ass in Hollywood right now!! An all around magical evening with my handsome hubby!! Here are my fashion details!! In an interview with Us Weekly during The Hollywood Reporter Emmy nominees party, Drew revealed that while she was initially upset by her departure from the ABC medical drama, she is feeling great and looks back at her time on Grey's fondly.

"I was sad at the time, but I'm feeling so good now," Drew said. "I really am. I'm such a true believer in everything happening for a reason. I really believe that in the depth of my being. The nine years on the show were absolutely formative, and transformative, and absolutely incredible season of my life."

After the performance that Drew gave throughout her years on Greys, we can definitely vouch for her fantastic presence and growing talent.

Our personal opinions aside, Drew certainly has reason to celebrate. After her unexpected departure from the show, she earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama series for directing the Grey's Anatomy: B Team web series.

"It was such an exhilarating experience that the experience in and of itself would have been enough," Drew said. "I didn't need a nomination to, like, allow that experience to be as gratifying as it was. But the nomination was just the cherry on top of the most extraordinary experience. Everybody worked so hard. It's so exciting."

It definitely is!

And while we are ecstatic for Drew and her newfound success, we know that we're going to miss seeing her on our screens every Thursday night. Honestly, it's just as devastating for us now as it was when Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) left the series.

However, Drew is grateful for what has happened and is ready to get out there.

"In some ways, I feel like it was time for me to go, and I was ready to go, but it would have been hard for me to walk away," Drew said."So it was kind of done for me, and I'm actually, in this moment, I'm feeling grateful for that. I feel like I'm spreading my wings and I'm jumping out into the world, and exploring all kinds of new avenues to tell stories, and I'm so excited."

As for what she'll be working on next, Drew reveals that she might be working more behind the camera after executive-producing her latest film, Indivisible.

"That really jump-started my desire to pursue directing," Drew said.

So, get ready. We know we are!
