Ellen Pompeo has had a fantastic run on Grey's Anatomy, but will there be more in her future?

Ellen Pompeo Dishes On Her Future With 'Grey's Anatomy'

As we near the end of Grey's Anatomy season 15, fans have been wondering what will happen for the show's sixteenth season. While we know that the network's ratings are beyond phenomenal for a show that's been on since 2005, and Grey's is about to reach a milestone of becoming the longest-running medical drama on primetime television, we're also waiting for ABC to announce their fall 2019 lineup to ensure that the Shondaland medical drama will be back for more.

In an interview with E! News, Ellen Pompeo, who has been playing Grey's Anatomy's Meredith Grey for over a decade, opened up about her future on the ABC series. So, is Pompeo ready to hang up her scrubs for good? Luckily for fans, it looks like a Grey's-filled future is ahead of her. That is, if the network picks it up.

When asked if she was committed to doing another season of Grey's Anatomy, Pompeo said that she was definitely onboard, legally speaking.

"I'm contracted for season 16," Pompeo said. However, while she is signed on to do a sixteenth season, it seems that ABC has not confirmed whether Grey's Anatomy is renewed or cancelled for season 16.

And while we're pretty hopeful that the medical drama will continue on, Pompeo remains humble about what the show has given her so far.

"I don't like to assume anything," Pompeo said. "Every season is a gift, there's plenty of great TV on and the network and the studio can do anything they want to do. I never take it for granted."

Pompeo also is looking towards her future and not just relying on Grey's Anatomy to get her creativity going.

"I'm definitely starting to branch out and do different things with my time," Pompeo said. "I'm definitely itchy to try some other things. I've tried directing."

That being said, Pompeo is grateful for the show that made her a household name.

"It's really satisfying to see where've started to where I am now," Pompeo said.

And to be honest, we're excited to see where Pompeo's career takes her and we couldn't love her more.
