Ellen Pompeo Gets Brutally Honest About Patrick Dempsey's Departure

"It's amazing how much you get done without a penis."
Grey's Anatomy hasn't felt quite the same since Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) was killed off in Season 11. Since then, two seasons have passed and the series has been renewed for Season 14. But, as excited as we are for all the upcoming drama, we still miss our weekly dose of McDreamy.

But, how did Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, feel about Dempsey's departure? Definitely not as sad as you would think!
Pompeo had some things to say about how things are going without Dempsey in an interview on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
In the interview, she joked:

Ouch. And also pretty hilarious.
But then Pompeo revealed that Dempsey's departure is just part of the nature of the show.
"I think a lot of people were really upset about his departure, which is super understandable, but I think the change is part of the reason the show goes on so long," she said. "People tune in to see, what does the show look like now? What is Meredith going to do without Derek? They get so upset about the change, but change is precisely what everyone always needs to sort of get to the next place."

Isn't that the truth?
But, regardless of McDreamy's departure, fans are still watching and thrilled to see what happens next to our favorite doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial.
