One night 25-year-old Georgia, a student from London, decided to take a walk on a beach in Crete, where she was vacationing with her boyfriend. What started out as a peaceful stroll however, quickly began going a different direction when Georgia was approached by two strange men, about whom something seemed a little off.
When the men tried to strike up a conversation with Georgia and asked her to come for a drink, she turned them down which apparently they did not take kindly. The situation escalated when one of them men grabbed her arm, until out of nowhere, Georgia’s hero came dashing out of the night.
Though not exactly a caped crusader, what turned out to be a stray dog proved just as effective. After charging across the sand, the stray parked herself by Georgia’s side and barked at the men until they finally left her alone.
“She saved me,” Bradley said to the Plymouth Herald. “She must have noticed something was wrong. When I went back to the apartment she followed me and finally let us stroke her. We had an instant bond.”
Over the next few days, Georgia formed an instant bond with the little black mutt who she decided to call Pepper. Eventually however, Georgia and her boyfriend’s vacation days dwindled and they were forced to fly back to London, reluctantly leaving Pepper behind.
“When we left to go to the airport,” Bradley said, “we looked back and Pepper was running after the car. It was heartbreaking.”
Throughout the next two weeks however, Georgia just couldn’t get the furry little heroine out of her head. That’s when she made a decision that would change both she and Pepper’s lives forever. Two weeks after leaving Crete, she hopped on a plane and flew right back to comb the beach for her long lost friend.
“It was a real risk because we may never have found her again,” Bradley said, “but when we saw Pepper on the beach, it was the best feeling ever.”
After the two enjoyed a heartfelt reunion, Georgia began what would prove to be an adoption process make a little stickier by the fact that Pepper had no official papers of vaccination records to speak off. Finally however, the day arrived when Pepper became the proud new owner of an official pet passport, though she still had to face a 21 day quarantine in Greece.
Finally however, after 6,000 miles worth of plane flights and five weeks, Pepper was able to fly to her forever home. It wasn’t until she picked Pepper up to take her home, that Pepper revealed her biggest secret of all. Not only was she a true hero dog, she was also pregnant!
In fact after a mere week in the UK, Pepper gave birth to six beautiful puppies who were able to enjoy being born into a loving home.
“It has been such a crazy journey,” Bradley said to the Plymouth Herald, “but I am over the moon. Pepper has settled in brilliantly.”
