As you may know, those outside the church can sometimes shy away from the Bible a bit, labeling it fiction at best or an offensive book condoning judgment of others at worse. As these verses show however, the Bible has a great deal to offer in essential human truths such as non-violence, love, and the championing of tolerance.
Many Christians will be the first to agree that over time, many have misused some of the verses in their holy book out of context in an attempt to control or change others to suit their own wishes. The important thing however, both for Christians and non-Christians alike, is to stay open enough to make up your own mind.
As you can see from the verses above, the Bible is about much more than faith, though that’s certainly part of its context. Just as often however, you’ll find that at its heart, the Bible is actually a book of action. While even the devil represented within its pages appears to believe in both God and Jesus, actually living a life of love is another matter entirely and appears to be the overriding theme.
So whether you happen to be involved in the church or not, there are hopefully a few things that we can all agree on- not as Christians, members of another faith, or die hard non-believers, but instead as members of the human race. Perhaps instead of bickering over doctrine or fighting in the name of faith, we should focus on the message the Bible really seems to be out to deliver: realizing that at the end of the day we are all just humans who need to be love and love others in return.
