A once great nation called Ravka has fallen under the prey of a dark evil known as the Shadow Fold which rolls in complete with flesh eating monsters. The nation's magical elite, know as the Grisha, discover that the fate of the land may rest on a young orphan named Alina with a unique power.
4. The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott
In this series, famed Alchemist Nicholas Flamel actually did discover the secret to eternal life and still lives 700 years after his birth. When his secret threatens to be stolen and used for evil by Dr. John Dee, it's up to twins Sophie and Josh to help Flamel save humanity.
5. The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles) by Patrick Rothfuss
If you've ever wondered what it's like inside the mind of a wizard, this is quite possibly the series for you. Told in first-person narrative, the books follow the life and adventures of a character named Kovthe- from his time as a magically gifted boy to his coming of age as the most notorious wizard of his time.
6. The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
Set in a medieval style future, in a land that swore off modern technology long ago, Princess Kelsea Raleigh must return to the kingdom of her birth to reclaim her dead mother's thrown. Though she posesses a sapphire of immense magical power, she must battle the vengace of the evil Red Queen in order to save her land.
7. Storm Front (Dresden Files) by Jim Butcher
This series, which already features over 15 books, revolves around professional Chicago wizard Harry Dresden. When Dresden agrees to consult on a murder case involving black magic, he's sucked into a mysterious and dangerous series of events.
8. 'The Paper Magician' by Charlie N. Holmberg
Ceony, a recent graduate of the Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined, is heartbroken when she finds that she's been assigned to study paper magic rather than metal magic as she'd dreamed. After meeting her mentor however, Ceony not only finds that the magic she's been assigned to study is capable of marvelous things, she's soon forced to use it to battle evil.
9. The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman
Fans of Neil Gaiman will love this fantastical tale that's based on a weaving together of both Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Throw in a little dark magic and a lot of adventure and this is one you'll want to be sure not to miss.
10. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
In a world reigned by an immortal emperor, where ash reigns from the sky and a number of revolts have miserably failed. A new magical heist is being planned however, one that lies in the hands of a criminal mastermind and his new young apprentice.
