Our two favorite A's—alcohol and astrology!

The Mixology of Astrology Review

In my times of need, I always turn to two things—astrology and alcohol.

They've helped me through the best of times, the worst of times, and every other type of time you could imagine.

Not a day goes by where I don't read my daily horoscope on three different apps and four various sites, just to gain a different perspective on what I may be dealing with.

And while I don't drink as regularly as I read what's going on in my astrological world, I can often be found sipping on far too many mimosas every Sunday during brunch.

You likely didn't come here with the intention of learning about my drinking and horoscope habits (though if you did, please make yourself known). You made your way to this piece to discover the magical recipe book that reveals the perfect cocktail for your zodiac sign.

Let's get into that, shall we?

I don't entirely remember how I stumbled upon the cosmic cocktail recipe book, The Mixology of Astrology, but the second I saw it, I knew it was meant to be a part of my life.

From the gorgeous pink and gold-colored retro-style cover to the premise of the it (Hello, alcohol and astrology?!?! We just talked about this), I could hear my inner voice screaming 'I have to have it' when it magically made its way into my life.

Written by New York City-based astrologer and writer Aliza Kelly Faragher, the book contains 192 cocktail recipes in total, which breaks down to 16 drinks for each different zodiac sign.

Aliza, who's built her career on making astrology accessible and relatable for all, spent a handful of months pairing various drinks with the signs.

"I created this master spreadsheet of 200 cocktails," she tells me over the phone. "The first 150 were, I knew them more or less. The last bit of them were ones I’d look in old mixology books for. It was really fun detective work. I basically identified the core attributes of each of the signs and associated them with the drinks that I thought would tell those stories best. The whole process took about three months."

Though it seems like a bit of a painstaking process, it certainly paid off. The book is simply stunning and incredibly thorough in its descriptions detailing why each drink was picked for a particular sign.

I'm a proud Sagittarius (with an Aries rising and Taurus moon). Ever since I was younger, I always felt incredibly connected to my zodiac, but Aliza's book helped me embrace myself a little more—which is exactly what she intended to do.

"I hope that people can really have fun embracing the true essence of who they are," she shares. "If you’re going to be a moody, creepy Scorpio drinking some like spooky, steaming drink, then go for it. Then if you want to be a brash Aries who gets the party going, have some shots. Being totally comfortable celebrating the true essence of yourself is really my favorite part of astrology and the bigger takeaway from the book."

I wasn't the only one who had fun celebrating the true essence of myself after making a cocktail for my zodiac sign, I had my coworkers join in on the fun, too.

After having them flip through the recipes, they all decided on a cocktail for their sign and I unleashed my inner-bartender to whip them up a cosmic concoction.

A group filled with three Sagittarius, two Virgo, and one Aquarius, Pisces, Libra, and Aries, we each discovered a little bit more about our signs while sipping on a variety of cocktails one afternoon.

Not only did we connect with ourselves better, but we also learned more about each other in the process. Alcohol and astrology, they bring people together.

Whether you're an avid horoscope reader, such as myself, or you barely know anything about your zodiac sign, you'll benefit from having this recipe book in your life.

Even if you're not a big believer in astrology, how could you say no to a book filled with 192 cocktail recipes? Just drink your way through this book for the heck of it. Our only request is that you do it responsibly.

Stay thirsty, my friends!
