You Will NOT be Happy About This Romance in Grey's Anatomy Season 15
Giacomo Gianniotti talks about the unsuspected romance between DeLuca and Meredith, and what it could mean for their futures.
Is DeLuca Meredith's New Bae in Grey's Anatomy Season 15?
With the "season of love" rapidly approaching, we've been way to excited to learn of how this might be affecting Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). Since Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) death at the end of season 11, we've been waiting for Meredith to bounce back into the dating world. Alright, maybe not that soon, but you get the point.
Derek was great, but the truth is that it's always been about Meredith. She's the star of the show and deserves as many hot hookups or love stories as she wants. Speaking of hookups, we've recently learned upon viewing the official season 15 trailer that Meredith and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) shared a sexy moment in bed.
So we're obviously dying to know if this is just a hookup, or if could it be something more. Is DeLuca the new man for Meredith that everyone keeps buzzing about? Here's what we know about the Meredith and DeLuca romance so far in season 15.
Giacomo Gianniotti Speaks On DeLuca's Relationship With Meredith
So what is really going on with DeLuca and Meredith? Gianniotti gives us some insight on the situation.
"Last season in the finale, they shared this drunken kiss. We didn't know what it meant but there was something there. Meredith kind of pushed it off and it's something we've been revisiting in this season," he tells Entertainment Tonight. "Definitely in the premiere you're going to see it right out of the gate, which is basically what you saw in the trailer but it's going to be a little longer, a little bit more detailed. I think we're going to see something blossoming between them: A friendship? A friendship that could be more? At the moment, we don't know. We're only on the sixth episode. We are definitely building some romance, but to what degree, I don't know."
We should have seen this one coming, but no one really did! DeLuca is hot and if we can't have him, then Meredith definitely should. You can argue that the age gap might be a little weird, but when has that ever stopped anyone on Grey's before?
DeLuca hasn't been so lucky with love in the past, so could this be his big break?
Gianniotti comments, "DeLuca is so focused on being a doctor and climbing as a surgeon, that all these romantic advances have fallen in his lap, in a way, and he's kind of just ridden the wave and not thought too much about them. I think Sam was the first person that DeLuca really, really cared about, that we really saw him go through great heartbreak and loss over that." It's still pretty unclear where he's headed in the romance department.
What To Expect In Season 15 of Grey's Anatomy
On another note, it's not always about sex and romance. Gianniotti was excited to touch on the spark between Meredith and DeLuca building, but what else does season 15 have in store?
He comments on the two-hour premiere, "We're catching up the fans to what's happened. We're coming right back the day after [Jo and Alex's] wedding, so it's just going to be an exciting season. We've got a lot of amazing guest actors coming on this season, new cast members [Chris Carmack and Alex Landi] joining us. We really are stacking the cast to make an incredible season for the fans."
Gianniotti seems to understand where fans are coming from.
"These people have been watching these characters for so long, some of them have grown up with them," Gianniotti said. "They feel like they're their friends. They feel like they're their family. They're in their living room every Thursday night at 8 o'clock. You really start to relate to these characters. I've certainly felt that way about other shows that I've watched in the past and you've watched for so long, you feel like you can really relate to these people."
"When the relationships end, it's almost like you're breaking up with that person too, that you're going to lose seeing that relationship onscreen, which, yeah it sucks at first, like a lot of other losses," he adds. "I think Grey's Anatomy does it so well in terms of when a character exits or when a love exits, they create something new. It might take some getting used to but then it's like the new thing and [turns into] 'It should've always been like this!'"
Whether Meredith and DeLuca's connection develops into anything serious or not, we have to wait to find out. For now, we're looking forward to the kickoff of the new season!
