But who is Taylor Swift suing for sexual assault, exactly? And what does he have to say about the accusations?
Who is Taylor Swift suing for sexual assault?
Swift has alleged that former KYGO radio station DJ David Mueller of inappropriate touching during a meet-and-greet.
In Swift’s testimony against Mueller, the singer accused him of groping her while taking a photograph together before her concert back in 2013.
While taking the photo, Swift claims it was then that the 55-year-old DJ put his hand up her skirt and grabbed her bare butt.
During his own testimony, Mueller denied the allegations and attempted to discredit the singer’s claims:
As for Mueller calling her cold she said “but I am not surprised I have a new and uncanny ability to elicit new types criticism.” https://t.co/DDFmHRK7TM— Claudia Rosenbaum (@CJRosenbaum) August 10, 2017
Mueller's atty said you could have taken a break and Taylor Swift responded "and your client could have taken a normal photo with me." https://t.co/81GpfQhJaT— Claudia Rosenbaum (@CJRosenbaum) August 10, 2017
Swift contradicted Mueller’s testimony and refused to be victim-blamed:
Swift said she is not critical of her bodyguard “I’m critical of your client sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass. " https://t.co/RcgUKpLVFu— Claudia Rosenbaum (@CJRosenbaum) August 10, 2017
On Mueller's firing Swift said “I am not going to allow your my client to make me feel like it is anyway my fault because it isn’t.” https://t.co/266Rbh6wBg— Claudia Rosenbaum (@CJRosenbaum) August 10, 2017
What happened to Mueller is "a product of his decisions, not mine," Swift says. #TaylorSwiftTrial— Clayton Sandell (@Clayton_Sandell) August 10, 2017
As a result of Swift’s allegations, Mueller was fired from his radio job and is suing Swift for $3 million in damages.
This wasn’t the first job Mueller has been fired from, however. His testimony in court revealed that he had actually been fired from two other jobs at KDWB in Minneapolis and KRBZ in Kansas City.
Swift is only countersuing Mueller for $1 in damages, as she hopes to “[serve] as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.”
