For as long as I can remember, I’ve only worn dresses and skirts.
Ask any of my closest friends if they’ve ever seen me wearing pants, and the answer will be a resounding “no.”
I have one pair of skinny jeans collecting dust in my closet. I have a pair of yoga pants that never see the light of day. Other than the rare occasion when I’m skiing in snow pants or rock climbing in leggings, I exclusively wear dresses and skirts. I pretty much lead a pant-less existence.
No jeans? No sweatpants? No culottes? No problem. I broke up with pants eight years ago, and I’ve never looked back.
Why am I so dress-obsessed? My love affair with dresses started for several reasons:
They make me feel like I’m Audrey Hepburn.
Dresses are just so feminine and flirty. Whether it’s a billowing sun dress or a fitted cocktail dress, I always feel like a real-life Holly Golightly when walking around downtown in a girly outfit.
They hide my food baby after I’ve devoured an entire platter of nachos by myself.
Pants just aren’t forgiving enough for my strict all-carb diet.
They make me look pretty without even trying.
Dresses are the laziest form of clothing — they’re basically a towel with straps. But they're effortlessly chic so they make you look like you tried really hard. In reality, it probably took me less time to throw on one piece of fabric than it took you to put on multiple layers of clothing.
They are good conversation starters.
When I wear dresses and skirts around town, I get more compliments and smiles from strangers. When I look and feel my best, I’m naturally going to invite more small talk while standing in line at the grocery store or grabbing coffee by myself.
They give me confidence.
When it comes down to it, I don’t dress up for anyone but myself. I wear what I like and dress how I want to portray myself to the world. Dresses and skirts make me happy — they’re just so me. Besides, life is too short to wear boring clothes.
