Midwest: Blueberry Mojito

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries, plus extra for garnish

  • 4 oz clear rum

  • 10 fresh mint leaves

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

  • juice of 2 limes

  • 6 oz club soda

  • ice

DIRECTIONS:

In a food processor or blender, puree the blueberries until smooth. Set the mixture aside. Add the mint leaves and sugar to a cocktail shaker. Use a muddler (or the end of a wooden spoon) to muddle the mint and sugar. Add the lime juice, rum, and pureed blueberries, then shake this vigorously. Pour ice and club soda into two tall glasses and then pour in the rum mixture. Gently stir. Garnish with a lime wedge, extra blueberries, and a sprig of mint. Serve immediately.

South: Strawberry Rhubarb Mojito

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 ounces of white rum

  • 1 lime, juiced

  • 1 teaspoon strawberry jam

  • 1 tablespoon rhubarb syrup (see recipe below)

  • 1 strawberry chopped

  • 8 mint leaves broken up

  • club soda for top off

  • 1 cups of ice

  • 1 Lime wheel

Rhubarb Syrup:

  • 1 cup of water

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 2 stalks of rhubarb, sliced

DIRECTIONS:

In a sauce pan combine sugar, water, and rhubarb to make the syrup. Let it boil until the sugar dissolves. Strain the mixture and let it cool. Fill a cocktail shaker with lime juice, strawberries, strawberry jam, rhubarb syrup, and mint leaves. Muddle the mixture until the ingredients are married together. Stir in the rum. Fill serving glasses with ice and add the mixture to them. Top it off with club soda and garnish with lime.

East Coast: Pomegranate Mojito

  • ½ ounce mint syrup (see recipe below)

  • ¼ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

  • fresh mint sprigs

  • pomegranate arils

  • club soda, optional
