Most people seem to know that breast cancer is a serious health issue for women. But the risk of breast cancer often overshadows other serious health issues women face on a daily basis. It’s important to keep in mind these four issues affecting women’s wellness:
1. Autoimmune Diseases
Seventy five percent of patients with autoimmune disorders are women. These conditions include type 1 diabetes, thyroid disease, and lupus. Combined, autoimmune disorders comprise the fourth most frequent cause of disability for women in the United States.
Many people brush off depression as a case of the blues, but clinical depression is a serious mental health issue. Women are more likely to become depressed then men, so it is important for women to seek help if they feel helplessness.
3. Heart Disease
Heart disease is the number one killer of American women. Make sure you know the signs of a heart attack so you can get medical help immediately. Some of them include feeling lightheaded, chest pressure, fatigue, shortness of breath, and arm pain.
4. Poor Body image
With social media and selfies on the rise, negative body image is becoming a greater concern for women and girls. This can lead to unhealthy body weight, lack of nutrition, eating disorders, and body dysmorphia.
