Stephanie Murphy is the first Vietnamese-American woman (and the second Vietnamese person) elected to Congress. The daughter of Vietnamese refugees, she and her family immigrated to the United States when she was just one year old.
Murphy previously worked as a businesswoman and college instructor. She also joined the Department of Defense, working as a national security specialist in an effort to protect the country that rescued her family years ago.
The Democratic Congresswoman is a staunch advocate for tax reform to lessen the gap between the rich and the poor in America.
The Senate GOP has officially passed its tax bill, but the fight is not over yet.
Murphy, who voted against the bill, cares about what the residents of Florida think and decided to get their opinion on the Republican legislation.
After polling thousands of her constituents, Murphy found that an overwhelming 76% oppose the GOP tax bill.
When it comes to the economy and taxes, Stephanie wants to combat the current tax system that she sees as full of special interest loopholes that protect large corporations and the super wealthy. She hopes that a more simplified tax code and tax cuts for the middle class will ensure every American and corporation pays their fair share.

This morning, my fellow National Security Task Force co-chairs and I hosted former CIA Director John Brennan and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl for a briefing on U.S. policy in the Middle East. The U.S. faces a range of challenges emanating from the region—from ISIS's presence in Syria and Iraq, to Iran's aggression, to instability in Yemen and Libya. We need a strong, smart and strategic approach to the Middle East to safeguard our nation and honor the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.
When it comes to foreign policy, Stephanie believes in working closely with our allies, especially NATO and Israel. She understands that we must use a strong and smart approach to destroy ISIS and protect America – not a reckless and rash one.
Watch Stephanie introduce her two bills to strengthen national security below:
Stephanie believes in working on reforming the Affordable Care Act rather than repealing and replacing it. She supports the fact that the ACA allowed people with pre-existing conditions to find affordable health care and young people to stay on their parents' plan until they are 26. She also supports reducing the costs of health care for women, extending maternity coverage, protecting Medicare for seniors, and prohibiting companies from canceling your coverage when you get sick.

As a former national security specialist, Stephanie has a unique insight on the need to secure our borders and deport those who threaten public safety while still treating all undocumented immigrants with respect. She strongly believes in establishing an easier, more efficient path to obtaining visas, naturalization, and citizenship.
She wants to reform our immigration system to keep families together and encourage economic development in America.

Stephanie has fought for stronger workplace protections for women, supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act and working to pass paid family and medical leave. She also strongly defends the rights of women to make their own health care and reproductive decisions without government regulation or intervention. She does not support attempts to defund Planned Parenthood.
We have no doubt that Stephanie Murphy will continue to fight for liberal causes on Congress, one bill at a time.
