Robert Redford is an American actor and director who got his start in the 1950s when he appeared on and episode of the iconic television show, "The Twilight Zone" and is the founder of the Sundance Film Festival. Born August 18th, 1936 in Santa Monica, California, Redford began his acting career in the theater like many stars in New York City. After a successful Broadway run and transition into television, he started getting roles in feature films starting the 1960s making his silver screen debut in "Tall Story." Some of Redford's most memorable movies include "The Natural," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, " "The Way We Were," "Barefoot in the Park," "The Sting," "All the President's Men," "The Great Gatsby," "Out of Africa," and "This Property is Condemned." Despite his numerous performances, Redford has only been nominated for one Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar but earned three Academy Award nominations for his work as a director. He took home the Best Director Oscar in 1981 for "Ordinary People." In 2002, he received an honorary Academy Award for his contribution to the world of cinema and creator of the Sundance Film Festival.
