The Short of It:

Time to go follow FLOTUS on snapchat guys!

The Longer Version of It:

First Lady Michelle Obama joined the ranks of the Kardashian's, Chrissy Teigen and Lady Gaga yesterday by embracing Snapchat, the current darling of social media platforms. The sign up comes ahead of her upcoming trip to Liberia, Morocco and Spain as part of her Let Girls Learn initiative which seeks to safeguard the education of adolescent girls from around the world and according to a White House press release to also educate people "about the more than 62 million girls around the world who aren't in school" .

Earlier this year, the First Lady had announced her plan to use social platforms to reach and engage her younger online followers and encourage them to be part of her political conversations. Obama has already dominated on platforms like Twitter where she has over 4.58 million followers and Vine where her video "Turnip For What" a parody on Lil Jon's song racked up over six million views in a single day two years ago. The first lady's video is so popular that it actually pops up on google search before the rappers.

We can guarantee Michelle won't be snapping pics like Kimye though. According to the White House, the first lady— whose account you can follow at "MichelleObama", will be used to give "young people a fun way to follow her trip" to promote education for girls. Since launching her "MichelleObama" account, Obama has snapped a series of behind-the-scenes snaps from the White House as well as a preview of a "Carpool Karaoke" video with James Corden host of The Late Late Show.

The Takeaway:

Michelle Obama is crushing the internet better than the rest of them and is doing the same in her role as First Lady. Picking a social initiative has been a cornerstone for first ladies of the U.S since the days of Dolly Madison. Lady Ellen Wilson took up urban housing, Lady Bird Johnson focused on the environment, and for Rosalyn Carter it was the improvement of mental health facilities. With the rise of social media, Obama has been able to spread her platform and reach audiences previously out of reach to former First Ladies. During her tenure, Obama has been able to get her hands into four major initiatives those including: the fight against childhood obesity with Let's Move! and the promotion of education for women and girls with Let Girls Learn.
