Break out the jammies and VHS players kids, because Disney is set to give you a major throwback you're gonna love.
The production studio who in the past two years has released several live action film remakes of their most beloved animated movies including "Jungle Book," "Maleficent," "Cinderella" and the upcoming "Beauty and the Beast" announced Wednesday that they would be teaming up with director Jon Favreau for a live action version of "The Lion King".
All '90s kids will get to share in the nostalgia of seeing one of Disney's most popular animated works of all time on the screen, this time though through the re-imagining of the original.
"We can officially confirm that The Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new re-imagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production," Disney stated in a press release. "The project follows the technologically groundbreaking smash hit The Jungle Book, directed by Favreau, which debuted in April and has earned $965.8 million worldwide."
Similar to "Beauty and the Beast," which comes out early next year and will be featuring Emma Watson as Belle, Favreau's version of "Lion King" will include music from the original.
In anticipation of the films release, Favreau went to Instagram to post a photo from the animated "Lion King" with the caption "Excited for my next project."
