The family living on a "Little House on the Prairie" captivated and charmed the hearts of America back in the 70s long before networks like NBC used hashtags to boost its ratings. The series about a family facing adventures in the bygone era of simpler times in the 1870s featured a delightful house on Walnut Grove, Minnestota and its lovable nearby locals. Drama, crisis and problems often befell the little house the Ingals resided in but was often faced with the power of love, family and friendship: small town values. The hit show gave the world Laura and Pa and other characters portrayed by actors who would go on to successful and shocking careers. Sweet and clever Laura Ingalls was portrayed by Melissa Gilbert who beat out over 500 girls for the part of the rambunctious character. Since her time on the show, Gilbert has gone on to star in various made for TV movies, dazzled audiences on Dancing With the Stars and gone back to her roots on the show by writing children's books.
The original DILF who taught us all about handwork and life on the prairie was portrayed by successful actor Michael Landon, who by the time he started on the show had already starred on NBC's hit show Bonanza . Landon went on to marry an divorce three times and have 8 children. After a skiing trip in 1991 where Landon suffered from great abdominal pain, the actor was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. The actor passed away six months later at his Malibu home.
Laura's greatest femnemesis was portrayed by Alison Arngrim who provided the voice for Casper on "Casper the Friendly Ghost", as Gumby on "Gumby", and Davey on "Davey and Goliath". Though she was the ultimate frenemy to Laura, in real life Oleson got along well with her on stage partner Melissa Gilbert and are said to be good friends to this day. She went on from her role as the ultimate mean girl on the prairie to author an autobiography titled' Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hate' where she publicly identified her childhood abuser and captivated critics for taking personal tragedy and finding humor in it. The actress later married her husband Robert Paul Schoonover a musician who helped Arngrim while volunteering at AIDS Project Los Angeles. Arngrim and her husband currently live in Los Angeles.
The ultimate big sis won the prairie was portrayed by Melissa Sue Anderson. Anderson left the show after season 7 but came back to make various appearances on the show. In 1978 she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Leading Actress in a Drama Series for her work on "Little House on the Prairie". She later won the Emmy Award for her performance in "Which Mother Is Mine?", which aired as an ABC Afterschool Special in 1979. The actress, like Arngrim went on to write a book about her time on the show called 'The Way I See It - A Look Back at My Life on Little House'. The beautiful actress also dated Hollywood star such as Lorezo Lamas and Frank Sinatra Jr.
Doing it way before the Olsen twins on Full House were twin sisters Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush. The two had small gigs in commercials for KFC and Doublemint Gum before going on to portray the original littleist sister on the show. After "Little House", the two sisters broke away from each other as they both pursued acting careers. Sidney starred in "Hambone and Hillie" which co-starred Lillian Gish, Candy Clark, O.J. Simpson in 1983. Lindsay went onto star in an episode of the crime show "Matt Houston" starring Lee Horsley, Pamela Hensley and Kellye Nakahara of MAS*H. A few years later the two sisters decided to retire from acting and returned to their normal lives graduating from high school in 1988. Both of the "Carries" still live in California, Lindsay is heavily involved with the sport of boxing, while Sidney owns a horse ranch where she breeds and trains championship horses.
Karen Grassle portrayed Caroline Ingalls the mother with a heart of gold. At the end of the series, Grassle moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and co-founded Santa Fe's Resource Theater Company. In 1994, she appeared in the movie Wyatt Earp, alongside Kevin Costner and went on to perform as the titular character of 'Driving Miss Daisy' at the Manitoba Theatre Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Kyle Richards as Alicia Sanderson Edward
Before she was clashing with Brandi Glanville on Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", Kyle Richards was starring as a Alicia Sanderson Edward. In the 1970s, Richards made appearances on several television series and a few horror films. You might remember her role in the1978 cult classic Halloween and her appearance opposite Hollywood great Bette Davis in the 1980 pic. After some subsequent roles in ER (1998–2006) and National Lampoon's Pledge This, the actress took a liking to reality TV starring in her niece's (Paris Hilton) shows "The Simple Life" and "My New BFF". She's know best known for kicking Brandi's butt and taking names on Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which also features her sister, Kim Richards.
Dean Butler as Almanzo James Wilder
Dean Bulter took on the role of Laura's dreamy love interest Almanzo and went on to star in another hit show "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". Since then, Butler has paid tribute to his role on "Little House" by directing, producing, writing and narrating bonus features for Little House on the Prairie DVD collections. He also acted as the narrator of a six-part documentary, "The Little House Phenomenon". Additionally, Butlerhas produced two documentaries, Little House on the Prairie: The Legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Almanzo Wilder: Life Before Laura. The actor is married to actress Katherine Cannon, who starred as Felice Martin on the television series Beverly Hills 90210.
