Stop Wallowing: Do These 10 Things To Regain Your Self-Confidence
“You must always have faith in people, and most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself.”
After years of hard work, we often think our confidence is bulletproof. But then tragedy strikes: You didn’t get that job you wanted, your boyfriend broke up with you, or you maybe put on a few pounds. Now you find yourself lying on the couch watching Sex & The City reruns, finishing a bottle of merlot before six pm, and wallowing in self-pity wondering how your precious confidence disappeared so quickly. Get up off that couch girl, because here’s how you’re going to get your confidence back.
1. Repeat This Positive Affirmation
When you wake up in the morning, say three things you’re grateful for or three things you love about yourself. Starting your day with a strong load of positivity will make you feel better about yourself.
2. Change Your Way Of Thinking
It might sound redundant, but changing your way of thinking can make a big difference in regaining your self-confidence. There are simple ways to modify your thoughts. For example, instead of saying, “I hate these jeans on me,” say, “I think I’ll look amazing in my skirt.”
3. Don't Compare Yourself To Others
They say “comparison is the death of happiness” and it’s definitely proven true. One of the downfalls of social media for women is seeing a picture of a model in a bikini and then picking yourself apart because you believe you aren’t as skinny, pretty, tan, etc. Stop comparing yourself to others and appreciate the skin you’re in.
4. Fake It Till You Make It
Sometimes pretending can be your biggest ally. Even if you aren’t feeling good about yourself before you go out, put on a smile and simply act confident. You will be surprised how faking it can help bring back your self-confidence you thought you had lost.
5. Break A Sweat
Elle Woods told us in 2001 that exercise will make us happier, and it’s true. Take a yoga class, go for a run, or grab your pup and take a walk. Just a little bit of exercise will boost your self-esteem.
6. Give Yourself Some TLC
Self-care is very important, but often we get so busy we forget about it. Give yourself a mini-facial, get your hair done, or maybe get a manicure. Sometimes adding a little TLC will make you feel better.
7. Set Goals For Yourself
If you feel more in control of your life, you will feel more confident. Stop wallowing and make a list of goals for yourself. You can make them as short as in a week or as far out as ten years. Then, when – not if! – you accomplish them, the feeling will be absolutely incredible.
8. Own Your Imperfections
Your imperfections make you beautiful and are what make you different from everyone else. Instead of pinpointing that teeny bit of cellulite, that small wrinkle, or your tiny stomach pudge, own it. As the cheesy saying goes, “work what your mama gave you!”
9. What Would Beyoncé Do?
Find a role model, whether it’s Beyoncé, Jennifer Lawrence, or your friend Camille. Find someone in which you idolize their confidence, then when you are feeling down, ask yourself what they would do in the situation. Say you feel insecure in your new bikini and put on a cover up. Then ask: Would Queen B put on a cover up? Hell no! Leave it at home and strut your confidence down that sandy beach.
10. Be You
After Lady Gaga’s amazing performance at the SuperBowl, internet trolls criticized Mother Monster for showing off her stomach when she had a little pudge. Fans were angered, and Gaga took to social media to show she wasn’t going to let the haters get her down. One thing she said was, “Be you, be relentlessly you.” This is so important in regaining your self-confidence. Be yourself, recognize your power, appreciate your beautiful body, and your confidence will follow.
